History of Kotagiri: The Nilgiris, one of the oldest mountain ranges in India, is a component of the Western Ghats and is located where Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka meet. There are three hill stations in this district: Ooty, Coonoor, and Kotagiri. Two Europeans, Mr. Whish, and Kindersley, who served as the Collector of Coimbatore's aides in 1818, found Kotagiri near Rengaswamy peak. The then-Collector of Coimbatore, John Sullivan, had a keen interest in this region of the nation. On July 31, 1819, he established himself there and filed a report with the Board of Revenue. This is a fact that has been documented. Earlier during school days new year just meant a holiday, with a usual festive day ritual of new dress, temple visit, rest of day playing and an evening 6 pm movie in Television. For the rest of the year all we cared was to make sure to write the date correctly. As we grew it was fascinating to realize that new year hits places around the world at different times due to the different time zones across the world. And later it was more subjective topic to understand that new year traditions are not the same across the globe and in some places it’s not the same day. Further growing is when we start getting the picture that new year day follows with the new 12 months.   Hello Guys,   After much contemplation here is my first post in December 2022. Though we say in jest that chennai has only one season throughout the year and that is summer, when the temperature goes down around this time of the year, we already start missing the warmth of daylight and blame the winter blues. It’s this time when we bundle up with those sweaters and hoodies that we use just once a year. Many of us are in need of ways to overcome these less sunshine days and that’s why december is getting more eventful than it used to be.   From getting yearly calendars over the counter in supermarkets, planning for yearend trips and getting free margali utsav passes, our horizons to entertain has broadened.   Making a snow man and calling it a holiday season would hardly suit our environment, in reality, we just don’t have holidays this december, as even Christmas and new year is falling on a sunday.
